Time based media

reconfigurations/distortions/displacements of time


Installations that deploy such technologies as video and computer devices delineate time; they are constructed with particular concerns about the length of time viewers will stay with the work versus its cycle, as well as concerns about how to get viewers to move in particular ways in the space. Indeed, one could argue that for artists working in these media, control of the viewer in time and space is a primary and inevitable goal.
The term was first used by David Hall: 'A successful sculptor in the 'new generation' school of the 1960s.. he turned his attention to the less tangible media of photography, film and video. A founding member of the video art movement here in the early 1970s, Hall was an influential activist on behalf of the infant art form...'
