Sound Research - Seminar 1 - 10 Nov 2005

SRG_01_web.jpg

In the first seminar we will explore the relationships between sound and the changing conditions in our atmosphere we call weather. We will listen to to recordings of atmospheric electricity as well as the music of Iannis Xenakis, which has been compared to a weather system. We will see how continual lightning discharges cause our planet to ring like a giant bell and how the harmonics of this ring correspond to different states of human consciousness. At the end will learn to read the temperature by listening to cicadas.

Nikola Tesla's research at Colorado Springs (1899-1900)

746px-Tesla_colorado_444px.jpg

In 1899, Tesla decided to move and began research in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he could have room for his high-voltage high-frequency experiments. Upon his arrival he told reporters that he was conducting wireless telegraphy experiments transmitting signals from Pikes Peak to Paris. Tesla's time at this lab has been a source for urban legends about him. Tesla's diary contains explanations of his experiments concerning the ionosphere and the ground's telluric currents via transverse waves and longitudinal waves.

Tesla, at his lab, proved that the earth was a conductor and produced artificial lightning (with the discharges consisting of millions of volts and were up to 135 feet long). Tesla also investigated atmospheric electricity, observing lightning signals via his receivers. Reproductions of Tesla's receivers and coherer circuits show an unpredicted level of complexity (e.g., distributed high-Q helical resonators, radio frequency feedback, crude heterodyne effects, and regeneration techniques). Tesla stated that he observed stationary waves during this time.

Testatika

This wondermachine is lurked from nature, nothing else. Nature is the greatest source of power as well as knowledge which man has, and it still conceals many secrets, which are only revealed to those, who approach and tie in with them with highest respect and responsibility.

To understand nature and to perceive its voice, man is obliged to experience silence and solitude, and it was there, where the knowledge about this technology was obtained.

The two conterrotating discs generate an electrostatic charge. One disc represents the earth, the other the cloud. Using grid electrodes the charges are bound. After that they are collected by non-contacting so-called antenna keys and then sorted.

After being initially turned on by hand, the discs rotate by themselves according to the electrostatic laws about attraction and repulsion. A rectifying diode keeps the cycles in steady state. Otherwise the impulses of attraction and repulsion would accumulate and cause the discs to run faster and faster. The correct speed is of great importance and for optimal power generation the discs have to run quite steady and slow.

By means of grid condensers the energy is stored and then uniformly discharged, at the same time reducing the high voltage and building up power with additional devices. Finally the machine supplies a uniform direct current, which varies according to the size of the model. The machine furnishes about 3-4kW permanent output, depending on humidity, whereby the electric potential ranges from 270 to 320Volt. High humidity of the atmosphere prevents the build-up of electric potential. The drier the air, the better.

No doubt, through the so far achieved results one main objective has been reached, namely to prove that it is possible to use Free Energy. Nevertheless the research work is not yet completed.

    • This 20 minute digital video tells the story of the Testatika, the ‘free energy’ machine invented by a religious cult called Methernitha who are based in the Swiss mountains near Bern. This film takes us on a scientific pilgrimage to New Hampshire (USA), Newcastle (UK) and finally to Bern (Switzerland) in search of this new source of environmentally clean energy.

Sonification of weather data

Weather Works

Atmospherics/Weather Works is a performance, installation, and distributed software project for the sonification of storms (cyclones, for example) and other meteorological events generated directly from data produced by a highly detailed and physically accurate simulation of the weather.

Weather Songs - Can You Hear Me Now?

a collection of musical audio pieces, accompanied by various animated graphics, which are based on 'sonified weather patterns'. four daily weather elements (barometric pressure, high temperature, minutes of sunshine & daily precipitation) over the span of about five years (about 1,800 days) are mapped to specific notes & played by various musical instruments speeded up 675,000 times (or about 1,800 days in 4 minutes). the higher the pitch, the more of the element (e.g. higher temperature or more precipitation) there is. even though the initial intent was to simply hear weather patterns, not to create music, the results are surprisingly musical & have been reviewed & played on radio.
